The history of Dry Creek Vineyard is a long and colourful one. Founded in 1972 by David Stare, it paved the way for a renaissance of winemaking and viticulture in the Dry Creek Valley. Before his arrival, the valley was little more than a few family farms and prune orchards but it was David’s vision to start a Loire Valley inspired winery that reintroduced consumers to the wines of northern Sonoma County.

David is a Loire aficionado and Dry Creek has succeeded brilliantly with plantings of Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc, but has also built up a reputation for terroir driven, old vine Zinfandel. As Wine Enthusiast Magazine suggested “When Dry Creek gets it right, few wineries anywhere can beat their Zins.

This wine displays aromas of bright red cherry, red raspberry and dried thyme, with darker notes of black cherry, espresso and cassis. The palate is full of ripe fruits, with refined and balanced tannins.

Chile made its reputation with Cabernet and this exemplary offering is full-bodied with ripe, soft blackcurrant, firm tannins and a long finish. e nose reveals aromas of red fruit and black fruit with balsamic tones, which complements with notes of vanilla, chocolate, cherry and plums. Their name is derived from the 1452 battle ('bataille') that took place on the ground the estate and vineyards stand on today; it was in this battle that the French reconquered the neighbouring Chateau Latour, reclaiming it from the English after 300 years of ownership - a crucial point in the history of Aquitaine. Just a few years later, the first vines were planted here, and the estate's reputation has only grown since then - helped significantly by its being awarded Fifth Growth Grand Cru Classé in Napoleon's 1855 Classification.

Chateau Batailley today is a flagship of the Borie-Manoux and Casteja family. A classic Pauillac style, it is crafted from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, grown in silica and gravel soils. Vines are an average of 40 years old, and the wine spends 16-18 months ageing in 55% new barrels.
