Chinaco Tequila proudly holds two distinct titles: it’s the only tequila produced in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas and the first premium tequila to become available in the US
back in the 1980s, which changed the history of tequila in America forever.
Chinaco’s distillery, La Gonzaleña, is a family-owned and operated business that can be traced back to the Cinco de Mayo battle in 1862 and is honored to exclusively produce Chinaco Tequila in three superb expressions— Blanco, Reposado and Añejo. At its core, Chinaco is a family business, a labor of love and superior tequila unlike any other.
DISTINCTIVE ROOTS
Chinaco is the only tequila produced in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, where the different terrain and proximity to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Sierras infuses the agave with complex flavors, including tropical and salty notes. Chinaco is proud to have been the first premium, authentic tequila sold in the US back in the 1980s, marking the beginning of America's passion for high-end tequilas.
In 2022, Chinaco celebrates 50 years of delighting tequila aficionados and commemorates this milestone with a return to its unique teardrop-shaped bottle. With a modern spin, the new bottle celebrates Chinaco’s history, a family more united than ever by the art of making tequila, and a living tribute to celebrate its unique origins. With this new bottle, Chinaco reinvigorates its presence in the US market and hopes to make a return to the coveted position it once held as a history-making tequila in the country.
With Chinaco, it’s truly all in the family. The tequila is exclusively crafted at La Gonzaleña, the distillery that proudly carries the Gonzalez family's name, and has employed the brand’s founders and operators for three generations (and counting) whose ancestors can be traced back to the Cinco de Mayo battle. La Gonzaleña is also unique in that it is a distillery that solely produces Chinaco and no other brand of tequila.
CHINACO’S HISTORY
Modern-day Chinaco is mindful of its history and heritage. As such, the brand is more determined than ever to honor its unique past as proud representatives of tequila from Tamaulipas and as trailblazers in the tequila culture of the US. Chinaco paved the way for premium tequilas in the US—claiming its title as the first artisanal, high-quality tequila to become available in the country. Prior to the 1970s, tequila was only produced in the state of Jalisco; however, in true chinaco spirit, the brand’s founder lobbied for the ability to distill agave in Tamaulipas under the “tequila” Denomination of Origin distinction. To this day, Chinaco is the only tequila produced in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. Production in Tamaulipas adds a unique flavor due to its locale between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sierras. No other tequila can say it is distilled in Tamaulipas, where the region's unique microclimate—situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sierras—infuses the local agave with unique flavors. As such, Chinaco offers a premium liquid with a distinctive flavor profile.
Chinaco’s distillers, the González family, only use agave farmed in Tamaulipas because of its richer flavor and intensity. Cementing the González family's strong ties to Tamaulipas is their commitment to the region, wherein they employ locals at the distillery to further promote Chinaco’s rich agricultural heritage and create jobs. La Gonzaleña distillery can directly trace its origins to Manuel González, the founder's great grandfather and a former Mexican president and war hero instrumental in the Cinco de Mayo battle in 1862.
Chinaco was the name given to the Mexican volunteers who fought in the French intervention. Against all odds, chinacos defeated the French army on May 5. This brave, fighter spirit is quintessential to Chinaco Tequila—it’s a matter of pride and
honors its roots. To celebrate Cinco de Mayo is to celebrate Mexico's victory against the French invasion, when chinacos were instrumental to Mexican success. What better way to toast on Cinco de Mayo than by savoring a tequila that would not exist without that victory?
CHINACO BLANCO
Distinguished by its fresh 100% agave taste. Bottled within five days of distillation, this tequila has a remarkably fresh, clean taste that's perfect for sipping neat, making premium margaritas or other cocktails. Pristinely clear, Chinaco Blanco offers a bouquet of pear, quince, dill and lime, tinged with aloe. It is clean, smooth, fresh and bright on the palate, with exceptional depth and balance, followed by a smooth, long, lingering finish.
CHINACO REPOSADO
Aged for 11 months in 35 year old French and English white oak scotch barrels which impart a gentle, woody character to the spirit. Mixes beautifully, but also stands proudly
on its own. A golden light amber color with a generous nose of citrus zest, peach and apple, hinting of dill and quince. Clean, fresh flavors carry through on the palate, with full depth and balance, capped by a medium-long, lingering, fruity, spicy finish.
CHINACO AÑEJO
Aged for 30 months in 35 year old French and English white oak scotch barrels, as well as American bourbon barrels. The result is a remarkably smooth and rich complexity that is to be savored like a fine cognac. Offers subtle aromas of pear, wildflowers, vanilla, smoke and baked apple, edged with papaya and mango. The flavors are rich and complex, with exceptional depth, balance and style, ending in a luscious, spicy, smoky finish.
