About Productos de Dokkaebier
Our inspiration comes from dokkaebi (도깨비), the enigmatic and shapeshifting creatures that is featured prominently in Korean folklore. The dokkaebi is renowned for its playful and mischievous nature, and its love of eating, drinking, and socializing with others. That’s why Dokkabier is a unique craft brewery centered around Asian flavors that aims to refresh the soul and connect cultures through a one-of-a-kind drinking experience. We want to show the world our excitement for the many different ways we can transform the craft beer scene by using eastern ingredients–and in 2020 we did just that.
When 2020 was still in its infancy, we established a pop-up taproom on Polk street in San Francisco. We found this to be unfortunate timing, due to the COVID-19 pandemic which began at the same time. We had to subsequently shut down the taproom, leaving us with our online store as the sole method to share our beers. The pandemic was not easy for any small business–especially a start-up. But just like the dokkaebi, we reinvented ourselves and adapted to make sure that during tough times, our community still had a reason to smile and have a great time with a pint of Dokkaebier in their hands. Since then, we’ve created over 30 original recipes with 11 beers we brew year-round! Brews like our Kimchi Sour, Bamboo Pilsner, Yuza Blonde, and Rice Kolsch remain as one of our best-sellers to date.
Now as the new year is winding up, we are also planning to start our own brewing facility to develop a stronger offline community presence and grow our brand by allowing more people to enjoy our Asian-inspired beers. By doing so, we believe we can become the leaders in Asian craft beer and open up the craft beer industry to more diversity and inclusion. Although the name feels foreign now, we want Dokkaebier to become like a familiar old friend synonymous to delicious and delightful experiences.
