The ALB story begins with John Curtin, the owner/distiller of The Albany Distilling Company: a small business in Upstate New York. Located in downtown Albany, “ADCo” garnered early acclaim from industry peers and craft distillery fans for its line of small-batch, grain-to-glass whiskeys and caribbean-style rum.
John is and has been a well-respected mainstay in the New York distillery scene. The distillery hosts regular tours, shares processes and techniques with inquiring distillers, and even advocates for New York State small farmer initiatives to policymakers in the State Capitol.
As ADCo’s stellar reputation–and audience–grew, John noticed the desire for a locally-produced neutral spirit that could go toe-to-toe with national, big-brand vodkas. So he set out to produce a high quality yet sustainably affordable spirit—the most iconic of them all—that could bridge the gap between cask-aged whiskey aficionados and friends who sought more neutral alternatives.
In 2014, John launched this new spirit—a vodka. He named it “ALB” (pronounced "A-L-B") after the three letter code for Albany International Airport. This symbolism directly reflects the desire to offer a connection to new experiences and friendships beyond the day-to-day, as well as to pay homage to the city he calls home.
